Visa Rules May Be Eased

The Foreign and Justice Ministries of Japan may soon give preferential treatment to foreigners applying for residential and extended visas.

The goal of the ministries is to allow more foreign workers into Japan to help stimulate economic and population growth due to a rapidly aging population. The plan aims to ease conditions required for foreign residency status and extended stays in Japan with preferential treatment being given to those with a good grasp of the Japanese language.

Currently, the ministries are planning to relax conditions required for residency status for those who are in humanities and international services.
