Big Changes in the Japanese Immigration System in 2012
A city hall official in Kyoto stated that in June or July of this year a major overhaul of the foreigner registry system will take place. Some of the changes that will most likely occur: The current gaijin card will be changed to a new version. Foreigners who have been living in Japan for a long period of time will begin receiving permanent residency status.
